Chewy Sugar Cookies – Soft, Sweet & Always Perfect

Instructions

Step 1. Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 2. Cream the Butter & Sugar:

  • Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat butter and sugar for 2–3 minutes until light, fluffy, and pale in color.

Step 3. Add Egg & Vanilla:

  • Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and milk until fully combined and smooth.

Step 4. Combine Wet & Dry Mixtures:

  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  • (Dough will be slightly sticky — that’s perfect for chewy cookies!)

Step 5. Chill the Dough (Optional but Recommended):

  • Chill the dough for 20–30 minutes.
  • This prevents spreading and gives you the ideal chewy texture.

Step 6. Shape the Cookies:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C).
  • Scoop 1 tbsp portions of dough and roll into balls.
  • Coat each ball in granulated sugar for that classic sparkle.

Step 7. Bake:

  • Place cookie balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving 2 inches of space between each.
  • Bake for 9–10 minutes, until edges are set but centers look soft.

Do NOT overbake — they firm up as they cool!

Step 8. Cool & Serve:

  • Let cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then move them to a wire rack.
  • Enjoy warm, or store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
