Instructions
Step 1. Make the Cookie Dough:
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
- Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Mix until a soft dough forms.
Step 2. Chill the Dough:
- Flatten the dough into a disc.
- Wrap tightly in plastic wrap.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour (for perfect shape and texture).
Step 3: Cut the Cookies:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface (¼ inch thick).
- Use holiday cookie cutters (stars, trees, snowflakes, gingerbread) to cut shapes.
- Place them on a lined baking sheet.
Step 4. Bake:
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges look slightly golden.
- Do not overbake—cookies stay soft as they cool.
- Cool completely before decorating.
Step 5. Decorate:
- Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make icing.
- Separate into small bowls and add food coloring.
- Pipe, drizzle, or spread icing on the cookies.
- Add sprinkles for a festive touch.
