Easy Homemade Glazed Donuts

Step 1. Activate Yeast:

  • In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. It sits for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2. Mix Dough:

  • Add egg, melted butter, and vanilla to the yeast mixture. Whisk to combine.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Step 3. Knead:

  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Alternatively, use a stand mixer with the dough hook.

Step 4. First Rise:

  • Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise for 1–1½ hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 5. Shape Donuts:

  • Roll out dough to ½-inch thickness. Use a 3-inch round cutter for donuts and a 1-inch cutter for holes. Re-roll scraps to cut more shapes.

Step 6. Second Rise:

  • Place shaped donuts on parchment-lined baking sheets. Cover lightly and let rise 30–45 minutes, until puffed.
