Instructions
Step 1. Peel the plantains:
- Cut off both ends of each plantain.
- Slice a shallow line down the length of the skin and peel it off gently.
Step 2. Slice the plantains:
- Cut plantains diagonally into ½-inch thick slices for classic maduros.
Step 3. Heat the oil:
- In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking.
Step 4. Fry the plantains:
- Place the slices in the hot oil in a single layer, leaving space between them.
- Fry for about 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges.
Step 5. Drain and season:
- Remove the plantains from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Sprinkle with a tiny pinch of salt if desired (optional but enhances the sweetness).
Step 6. Serve warm:
- Maduros taste best when freshly cooked. Serve as a side dish or enjoy as a sweet snack!
