  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Soup Base:

  • 1 tsp sugar (caramelization)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar (flavor)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
