Baked Sausage & Rigatoni Pasta

Instructions

Step 1. Cook the Pasta:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Cook rigatoni 2 minutes less than the package instructions (it will finish cooking in the oven).
  • Drain and set aside.

Step 2. Make the Sausage Sauce:

  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles.
  • Stir in onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Add garlic and cook 1 minute more.
  • Stir in marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  • Simmer for 5–7 minutes to let the flavors blend.

Step 3. Combine & Layer:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked rigatoni with the sausage sauce.
  • Spread half of the pasta mixture in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Sprinkle with half the mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Repeat layers with remaining pasta and cheese.

Step 4. Bake:

  • Cover loosely with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake another 10–15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.

Step 5. Serve:

  • Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color.

  • Pair with garlic bread and a crisp green salad.
  • Add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper for extra heat.
  • Serve with roasted veggies for a balanced dinner
